An Essay of Carmell Ricah B. Del Rosario
"Why Do I Deserve This Scholarship"
Many of us are given great opportunities in life. However, we sometimes make ourselves too busy to the extent that we ignore the petty knockings of small opportunities in our doors. Maybe others disregard this tiny opportunity being offered, but this stuff serves as a great help in pursuing our dreams. An adage says that many our called but only few are chosen then let me prove to you that I deserve to be one of those.
Firstly, I'm Carmella Ricah B. Del Rosario, 15 years old, a fresh graduate from Pardo National High School located in a small town in Cebu City. I belong to a family with only two brothers namely Joseph Anthony Del Rosario and Jonathan Del Rosario. I'm the only girl in the family. Unfortunately, my eldest brother already died last November 16, 2006, while my second brother is continually suffering from a disorder known as cerebral palsy. My father already lost his job not because of being irresponsible but because of his illness. He is a diabetic man. Just so you know, we are not that fortunate in financial stability even though my mother has a job. Her income cannot support my studies because of debts and bills that must be paid. But, I'm not blaming anyone in such misfortune in life because I believe that God has the best plan for me.
During my high school days, in terms of academics, I am a consistent honor student and fortunately graduated as a 1st Honorable Mention in my batch. Furthermore, I am also one of the quiz bowlers of our school. I really do grab opportunities surround me such as joining contests, quiz bowls and presentations in other schools. I also participate some seminars and orientations for me to boost my self confidence, to enhance my thinking skills and to meet other people. I also serve as a facilitator in some programs and events held in our school. I am also one of the core group leaders of Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement, one of the movements in our church. We organize some seminars and bible studies. I think all these things are great achievements for me to be a deserving scholar, and I think these things are not only great achievements but also a factor that helps me to shape my future.
I would love my schooling but who will finance it? That is why I apply in this scholarship you are offering. Maybe I only have the most typical reasons why I'm pursuing my studies; to have a stable job someday, to share what I learn to everyone, to procure some treatments to my father and brother, to finish and refurbish our house and to provide a living to my family, these may mean a thing to other people but for me, these mean everything.
Lastly, to formally end this piece, maybe a quote I will leave for you to ponder on. I maybe silly, and old fashioned little girl having a simple dream I want to achieve but, I know and I believe that God is with me in this journey I'm going through and "It doesn't matter what others mat think about me, what really matter is what God will think of me".
